We charge monthly and students receive an average of 4 lessons per month. Some months there will be 5 lessons and some months 3, depending on the calendar and when holidays fall, but you will always pay the same rate each month.
What ages do you teach?
We teach children through adults, beginner to advanced. Starting age depends on the teacher and instrument.

Kaytlynn E. Capasso (Woodwinds/Piano/Voice)
Kaytlynn Capasso received her teaching certification from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, with a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Saxophone, Master’s Degree in Music Education, and is currently working on her PhD (EdD) from the University of Phoenix in Curriculum and Instruction. She has played with big bands, small combos, and pit orchestras throughout the DMV, New Jersey, and Philadelphia region.
Since 2018, she has taught music at Georgetown East Elementary school, as well as private lessons based out of her home in Annapolis, with a focus on woodwinds (saxophone, flute, clarinet), and beginner-intermediate piano and voice.
I fell in love with music at a very young age. I love how intricate, yet so simple and pure it is. There is structure and discipline, yet such freedom. My teaching philosophy is to challenge students to be their very best, but with patience and grace at the forefront. Being sure to listen, create, and explore is crucial in development. I always encourage questions of “why” and “how?” and am focused toward a student-centered mindset. Lessons are created around the individual in order to ensure engagement, growth, and quality of student learning.

My teaching philosophy is that making personal connections and fostering meaningful relationships are the keys to student success. It’s also how I choose to live my best life. It’s my belief the band room is more than a place where students learn music. Life lessons emerge in a positive learning environment where students thrive because they are loved, supported, and valued. Through music, my students learn to communicate, show positivity, have fun, laugh, problem solve, trust, motivate, persevere, unify, take risks, show grit, learn resiliency, model respect, and inspire. When everything blends together like a beautiful piece of music, what emerges are not only talented musicians, but great people with character who will make a difference in our world someday.
I hope the students I’ve taught for over thirty years in Anne Arundel County look back fondly on the time they spent in my band room. They might forget what I said about playing with good posture, they might forget the trumpet fingerings in a C major scale, but I hope they remember those connections we made and that special feeling when they spent time in my band room, their very own “happy place”.

Lily Hensler (Alto Saxophone/Musicianship)
Meet Ms. Lily Hensler! Ms. Hensler is an Anne Arundel County Public School band and orchestra teacher at Central Middle School in Edgewater MD. Ms. Hensler will be entering her fourth year of teaching in the 24-25 school year. Her primary instruments include the clarinet and the alto saxophone! Ms. Hensler grew up in Southern Calvert County studying clarinet in wind ensembles and marching band. She started the alto saxophone in 8th grade under Mr. Rick Humphreys. Ms. Hensler continued her passion for music education and jazz education through various school, county, and tri-county honor ensembles during her public-school days. She pursued her Bachelor's of Science in Music Education at Towson University, graduating in the Spring of 2021. Ms. Hensler is an eclectic music listener who loves to not only perform in various jazz ensembles, but also listen, educate, and promote the love of jazz to the youth in Anne Arundel County.
David Lewis (Trombone/Musicianship)
David Lewis is a high school instrumental music teacher in Anne Arundel County Public Schools entering his 6th year in public education. Currently at Southern High School, he directs the Concert Band, Marching Band, String Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and also teaches individual lessons on guitar, piano, and various wind instruments.
Mr. Lewis holds two undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Trombone Performance both from West Chester University's Wells School of Music where he studied trombone with Daniel Cherry and jazz improvisation with John Swana.
Mr. Lewis has always found music to be a powerful tool in allowing students to build their self-confidence and believes improvisation and exposure to the jazz idiom to be a crucial aspect of this. He frequently performs with various chamber groups, musical theatres, big bands, and jazz combos throughout the DMV and Philadelphia areas. He is currently pursuing his National Board Certification in Music Education.

Bruce Swaim (Woodwinds/Improvisation/Doubling)
Bruce Swaim attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as a performance major in saxophone. He also studied with acclaimed saxophonist James Houlik.
Bruce moved from North Carolina to the Washington, D.C. area in 1981 where he has remained since. Moving from North Carolina to Washington, D.C., Bruce was given the opportunity to work professionally with many notables including Keter Betts, Danny Gatton, Rosemary Clooney, Martha Reeves, Millie Jackson, The Spinners, Michael Feinstein, Houston Person, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Carl Allen, Dick Morgan, Ronnie Wells. He is an active studio musician with many independent pop, jazz and blues recording projects along with numerous film, T.V. soundtracks and jingles. Bruce is an accomplished musical composer in addition to scoring horn charts for studio and live performances for other musicians. His performance credits and venues include BET Jazz Central, The Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, Wolf Trap, DAR Constitution Hall, Strathmore, The Rams Head, The Warner Theatre, The White House and Lincoln Center NYC to name a few.
Bruce has received two Wammy Awards for Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year from the Washington Area Music Association. The Bruce Swaim Quartet has recorded 4 albums, 2 of which received WAMA awards for Jazz Recording of the year.
Bruce has been teaching privately for over 30 years, and has spent time teaching at St. Andrews school in Bethesda MD as well as The Friends School in College Park MD. He teaches students of all levels on saxophone and flute. Bruce will help create a program for each individual student based on their needs and goals.
