Monday Night Jazz Band - Big Band and Combos
Absorb professional-level performance techniques and concepts while learning classic literature from bandleaders Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Miles Davis and John Coltrane. The semester concludes with a themed concert in the Bowen Theatre on the campus of Maryland Hall in downtown Annapolis, Maryland.

Audition Dates: Monday September 9th and September 16th
Class Dates: September 23 - December 16, 2024
Class Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Audition Information:
Auditions for the Naptown Jazz Kids Monday Night Big Band will be held at Maryland Hall, Room 100, in Annapolis, Maryland on Monday, September 9th, and Monday, September 16th.
Auditions will last approximately fifteen minutes and will include:
Performance: Perform one prepared jazz etude.
Scales: Perform 2-3 major scales.
Sight Reading: Sight-read a portion of a piece with simple rhythms and melodic ideas (provided at the audition).
Verbal: Be prepared to answer the question, "What would you like to learn about jazz?"
After the auditions, applicants will be contacted regarding their results and chair placement.
Auditions will begin with a meeting between all parents/guardians, students, and the NJK Teaching Staff for an information session about Naptown Jazz Kids and our programs.
Instruments Needed: saxophone (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone), trumpet, trombone, guitar, piano, bass, drums, percussion, flute, and clarinet.
Need-based scholarships for the Fall semester are available!

Naptown Jazz Kids Fall Jam Sessions!
Naptown Jazz Kids (NJK) will be hosting two jam sessions this fall, in October and November. Dates and times are to be determined. The sessions will take place in Room 100 at Maryland Hall.
These jam sessions are enjoyable and informal events where musicians can play jazz standards and improvise over tunes and common chord progressions.
Bring a friend and a tune you'd like to play, and share the music with others!
